Message from the Principal

First Holy Communion

On the weekend many of our Year 4 students celebrated their First Holy Communion. First Holy Communion is a time when our students are invited to share in the Eucharistic. This is the part of the mass where the bread and wine become the body and blood of Jesus. It was wonderful to see all the students dressed up with beaming smiles on their faces. We are grateful to our dedicated teachers and parents who have lovingly guided our students. It was especially uplifting to hear our amazing choir make the day even more special.

Cross Country

On Wednesday the weather was certainly on our side. All went very well with students giving 100% and cheering on all their friends. Cross country is a great event that all students are able to participate in and is a great way to stay fit. A big thankyou to Mr B and all our staff and parents who helped make  it such a great day.

Staff Professional Development

Staff attended Bilya Koort Boodja Centre for Nyoongar Culture and Environmental Knowledge located in the Shire of Northam on the foreshore of the Avon River. Staff engaged in cultural and language activities leaning more about the language and culture of the Nyoongar people.

Indigenous Carnival

Students from Good Shepherd, St Michaels and St Bridget’s competed in Footy, Soccer and Netball games.  The GSL students wore their brand new interschool sports jerseys which were donated by our fantastic P&F who also provided sausages for all three schools. Apart from a bit of rain the day went very well. Well done to Mr B who organised and coordinated the entire event.

Seesaw Communication

Seesaw is a great source of communication between school and home. A reminder that if you are using it to communicate with staff that it may not be checked during the school day and it may take 24hrs to get a response. Therefore, please do not use it to pass on urgent messages. If you need to contact your child to let them know things such as who is picking them up, please contact the front office.

Holidays during Term Time

If you are taking your child out of school for an extended period of time for a holiday, please fill out the Absentee Form on the School website https://www.gsl.wa.edu.au/absentee-notice/. As stated in the School Education Act (1999,) it is expected all students should attend school for each day that it is open for instruction unless unwell and/or physically incapable of attending. While families are not encouraged to take time off during school time this is sometimes unavoidable. There are no expectations for teachers to provide a program of work for students while on holiday during term time.

 Sick Children

There are plenty of winter illnesses that are currently affecting our students and staff. These infectious diseases transfer very quickly and both students and teachers are susceptible. You can help by keeping your children at home if they are unwell or symptomatic (including runny noses and coughs). Please do not send your child to school unwell as sick children will be sent home.

God bless

World's Greatest Shave

With no screening programs available and no means of prevention through lifestyle changes, blood cancer is Australia's hidden cancer crisis. Every day, 53 Aussies are diagnosed with blood cancer, and 16 will lose their life. We can't delay taking action together. That's why we have decided to take part in the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave. We will be raising crucial funds that help give those facing blood cancer all the support and information they need, while driving breakthrough research projects discovering better ways to diagnose and treat blood cancer. You have the power to help me make an extraordinary difference. Big or small, every donation counts. Will you help by sponsoring us?
