At Good Shepherd Catholic School Music classes are conducted from K – 6, based on Kodaly music education while also covering the SCSA syllabus. It is a sequentially based program with a focus on play based and practical application of music skills. We have an emphasis on developing music theory, aural skills, singing skills, performance skills, musicianship, and a deep love for music. The music room is well resourced with a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments.
Good Shepherd has private instrumental tuition on offer during school hours. Year 1 – 3 may learn piano. Year 4 – 6 can choose from a range of instruments flute, clarinet, alto or tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone or percussion. Our Year 4 – 6 instrumental students also have the opportunity to join the school concert band.
Our choir is made up of all our Year 5 students. Our choir are responsible for leading singing at school Masses, school events and represent our school at the Catholic Arts Festival.
Good Shepherd takes part in the Catholic Arts Festival entering our choir, concert band and many solo instrumental students. We also hold an annual music night for our choir, concert band and instrumentalist and Carols by Candlelight at the end of the year.
