Newsletter Week 10 – Term 1 2023

Prayer

Message from the Principal

Welcome to the end of Term 1, that has certainly managed to sneak up on us.

Crazy Sock Day was a great success on Wednesday as well as Hot Cross Buns and Easter Raffle from the P&F, so the end of term has well and truly crammed as much as possible into this last week.

Thank you to all the parents who have had meetings with teachers over this past week.  We trust that this has been an informative experience for you to understand your child’s start to the 2023 school year.   Appreciation is extended to our teachers who have invested much time to prepare and meet with as many parents as possible this week.   For those parents who have not been able to see the classroom teacher, for any reason, we encourage you to make contact and arrange a time early Term 2 to have this meeting. For those families who could not meet their teacher because the teacher was absent, you will be advised as soon as a new date has been scheduled.

This week we have acknowledged Holy Week with readings each day after recess to allow us time to reflect on the events of the last week of Jesus’ earthly life.  Today, being known as Maundy Thursday, was the day Jesus had the Last Supper with the Apostles and from which we get the basis for communion.

The Good Shepherd Parish will be holding Stations of The Cross on the school oval tomorrow from 10am.   This is a very popular event in the most important week of the church calendar and all families are invited to attend.  An Easter Vigil Mass will be held on Holy Saturday at 7pm and Easter Sunday Masses at 8am, 9.30am and 5pm.

Easter is the beginning of the school holidays for our students, and we wish all families safe and enjoyable down time away from the school routine.

Reminder here that Term 2 commences after ANZAC Day and we look forward to welcoming you all back on Wednesday 27th April.

Wishing you all a happy and Holy Easter and relaxing days ahead over the holiday break.

Lisa Deans

We praise you this Easter season. Change our lives, change our hearts to be messengers of Easter joy and hope.

We make this prayer through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord forever.  Amen

Year 6 Senior Leaders

This week is week 9. There are many things happening this week including, the Easter raffle, crazy sock day and the end of term Many Gifts One Spirit award. On the 5th of April, is Crazy Sock Day. The students will have to bring a gold coin donation so that they can attend school with crazy multicoloured socks.

This year, the person of the week has been changed to the Many Gifts One Spirit award. There will be one junior student and one senior student selected for the award, who have consistently been demonstrating the school values.

This week is also the Easter raffle. If students want to participate in the raffle, they will have to bring in a gold coin donation and some easter gifts for their class baskets.

Sadly, our time as senior leader is over in one week. It was a pleasure being term one senior leaders and it was very fun. We wish the best of luck for the term two senior leaders, and we hope they have the same amount of fun that we did.

Containers For Change

We are collecting containers!!

We will be educating our students to recycle their containers purchased at our canteen. You are also able to assist by bringing in containers or using the code below at containers for change recycling centres.

CHECK FOR THE 10¢ MARK

It's easy to save your 10¢ containers from landfill so they can live another life — just check for the 10¢ mark!

Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel, and liquid paperboard drink containers that are 150ml to 3L are accepted.

This includes:

• Most single-serve water and fizzy drink containers up to and including 3L.

• Most single-serve alcohol containers, like beer bottles and pre-mixed spirits.

• Flavoured milk containers that are 150ml to 999ml.

• Coconut water, pure fruit, or vegetable juice containers that are 150ml to 999ml.

Make sure you take off the lids — we recycle those too, just separately.

Many Gifts, One Spirit Award

Congratulations to our most recent Many Gifts, One Spirit Award recipients in acknowledgement of showing the school value of RESPECT during Term 1, 2023:

 Wilson 2B

Wilson is an absolute delight to have in the classroom. Everyday I am blown away with how polite and well mannered he is. His manners are impeccable which shows tremendous respect to not only his teachers but to his peers as well. I have noticed on many occasions in class how kind and courteous he is to his peers. Wilson you are a joy to teach and an even bigger joy to have at our school. We are proud of you.

 Lucas 6B

Lucas is a a deserving recipient for the Many Gifts One spirt award because he consistently shows respect towards students in the school no matter their age. If he sees someone alone or being left out, he always tries to help to the best of his ability. He consistently looks out for his friends and ensures they treat each other kindly and respectfully. Lucas consistently shows respect to the staff as he always listens to instructions and displays whole body listening  during lessons. He is always happy to help staff with jobs and a lot of the time he doesn't need to be asked, he volunteers even during recess or lunch time. Lucas is an asset to our Good Shepherd School and is a positive role model.

EASTER

This week has seen the P&F provide all of our students with a hot cross bun each.  We hope everyone loved their delicious treat!  Thanks to our parent help Clare and the year 6’s for helping deliver the buns.

This week we have also held our Easter Raffle, each class has had up to 4 winners.  Congratulations to our winners! Big thanks to all the families who supported the raffle with donations.  There was lots of chocolate alternatives such as crafts donated and it was much appreciated.

THANK-YOU!

Friday 24 March saw the annual Ride to School day.  It was great to see all the students out and about.

As part of the morning, the P&F supplied the students with some fresh fruit to fill them up after their ride.

The P&F would like to give a massive shout out to all the teachers who helped that morning in cutting up fruit.  Without their assistance, we would have been unable to continue.

We understand everyone is busy, but without the additional support of volunteers to run events both small and large, the P&F will be unable to continue to hold them. We appreciate all the help we can get.
