Sick Children

As we enter the colder months, colds and flu become more prevalent. We continue to promote good hygiene practices at school and appreciate your support in reminding your children to: Regularly and thoroughly clean their hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

  • Cover their mouth and nose with a bent elbow or tissue when they cough or sneeze.
  • The symptoms of colds can be similar to those of COVID-19, which can range from mild to severe.

Please keep your children at home if they are feeling unwell. Thank you for your support.

Early Childhood Works

I have some very exciting news to share! In December this year, right after school finishes, we will begin a fantastic building project for our Kindy and Pre-Primary classes.

Here's what will happen:

  • All the rooms will get a big makeover
  • The roof will be replaced.
  • The PPB classroom will become bigger and will have its own toilets.
  • A second Kindy room will be added next to the current one.
  • The entire outdoor area will be developed into a great new space.

In 2025, our Pre-Primary classes will move to the hall, which will be split into two rooms, one for PPB and the other for PPW. Our Kindergarten classes will move to the computer lab and the foyer. The children will continue to receive the same level of education and resources, as all equipment will be relocated to the temporary rooms. The Kindergarten and primary students will also have their own playtimes, during which they will use the junior primary nature playground.

We hope to have everything finished by October 2025. It's going to be an amazing transformation, and we can't wait to see it all come together!

Reading

While we spend an extended amount of time at school promoting a love of reading, the most powerful way to create lifelong readers starts at home. Sharing a book with your child allows you to share adventures and experiences.

When reading to your child or listening to them read it is important to bring the characters to life.  You can talk about the different characters, the illustrations and the events so that the story starts to come alive. If you are feeling extra adventurous try different voices or encourage your child to. It is important that your child knows you are engaged in their reading, so let them see it on your face.

Sharing a book with your child not only improves their reading skills, vocabulary, and knowledge but also allows you to share experiences in the safe world of the book. Reading gives you the opportunity to engage with your child through discussion and questions.

Remember, it is true, the more you read the better you get!

Extra-Long Weekend Approaching

A reminder to parents that the school will have additional closure days attached to the June long weekend in a couple of weeks’ time. The school will also be closed on Friday 31st May, with students returning on Wednesday 5tth June. I hope all families enjoy the extended long weekend break.

God Bless

Seniors Leader Message

Hello students and families,
This week we have been training and getting ready for cross country and the Indigenous Sports carnival. The Year 6’ s have just completed their soccer tournament against each other and the eventual winners were from 6W. The participants for the World’s Greatest Shave, on the fourteenth of June, are getting excited and continue to look for donations so that we can reach our target. We also congratulate Year Three students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. That’s all this week!
Mariah & Ethan.

Premier Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is in its third week. Students in Kindy to Year 6 can participate and register. We have almost 300 students registered, which is an amazing achievement for 3 weeks since the launch. Thank you so much for all your support.

There is a special early prize this year if we register before the 31st of May.

We can be in the draw to win a visit from DEWEY DEX, the Premier’s Reading Challenge mascot, who will be performing “DEWEY THE MUSICAL” a fun interactive show about how reading can take you anywhere. The students are so excited and would love to meet him. Let’s get the whole school registered to be in the draw.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge started in 2022. Good Shepherd is very proud to have won the best school award 2022 and 2023 for our registrations and logging in books and would love to win again as this will benefit our students as the whole school will win a major prize at the end of this challenge and wonderful recognition of the students’ achievements in reading.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a 4-month journey starting 6th May and ending 6 September. Students need to have read 12 or more books and will receive a very special certificate when the challenge ends in September. Books to log in include library books, take home readers, reading a story to your child, public library books, books at home, comics, short stories, magazines, lyrics and much more. Books read by me at Storytime also count. When students log in their books, they are in the draw for a weekly prize including books, kindles, vouchers and much more. What a wonderful literacy engagement program to encourage students to read and build positive relationships to reading.

Please register by clicking HERE and go to “support” for sign in details

Please register using your child’s name (Student Name)

Mrs. Tomazin is happy to register your child and log in their books.

I have registered over 50 families already and am happy to assist anyone finding it hard to register.
