Newsletter Week 10 – Term 3, 2024

Principal Message

This week our principal, Mr Gaglia, has been away at a conference that involved new professional learning and some networking with other Catholic Primary Principals.

In his absence things have just continued to be as busy as always at Good Shepherd.  Here are some of the happenings since our last newsletter.

Athletics Carnival

What a wonderful spring day we had last Friday to enjoy our Athletics Carnival.  A big thanks to all those children who participated so willingly to support their house. Congratulations to Francis who were the overall winners. BIG THANKS must go to Mr B, the staff and parents who helped make this a great day of fun, competition and sportsmanship.

Kindy relocation

This week has seen the Kindy class relocate to the hall in preparation for the refurbishment in the Early Childhood Centre in 2025. Our incoming Kindy students for 2025 will be able to do their Orientation next term in the new Kindy space as they prepare to come to school.  Drop off and pick up for Kindy is now outside the hall entrance.

Music Night

How amazing are our musicians and singers. Thank you to Mrs Reedman, Mrs Coleman and Mrs Reid for their tuition of our children in their preparation for Performing Arts. This evening was a culmination of many hours of practice and all students did a wonderful job showcasing their talents to family and friends.

Fair Game

The school P&F organized a connection with Fair Game to recycle sports equipment that is then forwarded on to remote communities inspiring healthy lifestyles and active participation in sport by having the resources to do it. This incentive ended with a “Wear your favourite jersey” day with a gold coin donation. As always, our community were very generous in their donations.  Thank you.

Farewell & Best Wishes

This last couple of weeks has seen us farewell three of our staff members :

Rebecca Morrell has left Good Shepherd as the family embark on a country change.

Kristen Pesce has left Good Shepherd to explore other opportunities both in education and further afield.

Ann Cutler has retired from her work in counselling in schools and will enjoy much more down time.

The Good Shepherd School community wish all of these ladies happy times ahead as they venture into new territories. We are eternally grateful for their contribution to the school and will keep them fondly in our memories.

Reminder

School commences for students on Tuesday 8th October

Finally I take this opportunity to wish all our community a safe, happy and relaxing holiday break. Reflecting on all the great things that happen in our community reminds me that it takes a village and I am grateful for you all and your contributions to the Good Shepherd village.

God Bless

Senior Leaders Message

Hello Families,

We have had another two busy weeks. The disco was an awesome night filled with singing and dancing the night away. Next up, we had music night where the band, junior choir, the Year Five choir and the new senior choir performed amazingly in front of their parents. We also got to wear yellow on "Are you ok day". The sports carnival was held last week and congratulations to Francis for winning the sports carnival. A big thank you to Mr B, the staff and parent helpers for making the day so special. On Monday, not only did we get to wear our favourite sporting team's uniform, but we also managed to fill two bins with no longer used or wanted sports equipment to assist those who are not as fortunate as us.

Yarning Circle - Native Plants

A big thank you to the City of Swan who provided us with a grant to be able to purchase bush tucker native plants for our yarning circle. Our children and staff planted them this week and we look forward to watching them flourish in this special space.

Athletics Carnival

What an extraordinary day we experienced during our Athletics Carnival! I felt an overwhelming sense of pride witnessing the dedication and sportsmanship displayed by all our students as they enthusiastically cheered on their peers. Congratulations to Francis for winning the sports carnival!
